  2. It means that I have a bachelor's degree in “Arts, Letters, or Humanities” — that's why the trim is white. Different colours signify different areas for taking degrees; the commerce students who graduated with us, for example, had hoods trimmed with a sort of peach colour.   3. I think it's because when else do we get a chance to run around in Potterish robes? If we were all Oxfordians it would be run-of-the-mill, but alas, we are not all Oxfordians, more's the pity.
